Frequently Asked Questions

LETOA has an extensive website that will continue to grow. Some content can be difficult to find or require visitors to look in multiple locations for information. This frequently asked questions page centralizes most of the common questions asked by potential new members. If you have a question not answered below, contact us and we will respond in 2-3 business days.

What is LETOA’s mission?

The overall mission of LETOA is to promote service, professionalism, and excellence throughout the Criminal Justice community. We are dedicated to improving the proficiency and safety of officers by participating in policy making processes and advancing cooperation among trainers, governmental bodies, and other organizations that enhance the quality of training for Criminal Justice professionals. For more information, visit the LETOA Mission page.

Who can join LETOA?

To fulfill our mission, we need a diverse and active membership base of instructors from numerous departments, agencies, and educational facilities. Some examples regular members include full time instructors (recruit academy, college and technical college) and in-house instructors at agencies including police (city, village, and town), sheriff deputies, correctional officers, state patrol, game wardens, and federal officers. For those who want to be a part of LETOA but don’t meet the requirements of a regular membership, associate memberships are available. Click Here to learn more about joining LETOA.

How do I apply for a membership?

Our membership calendar runs May 1 through April 30. There are basically three ways someone can apply for membership. The first is to attend our annual training conference. Membership dues are included in the price of the conference. The second way is to apply online using a simple fillable form. The third way to apply for a membership is to download a PDF that can be completed and either mailed back to LETOA or scanned and emailed. For more information, go to our Join LETOA page.

What benefits will I receive?

There are numerous benefits to joining our association. Some of the benefits include networking and collaborative opportunities, access to shared lesson plans, access to shared roll call trainings, access to member specific written articles, access to member specific training videos, opportunity to serve on Board of Directors, and student scholarship nomination for family members. For a more complete listing of benefits, go to the Benefits of Membership page.

What are the annual dues?

In an ideal world, membership would be free. Our mission is to assist criminal justice instructors, not turn a profit. However, there are costs involved to maintain our online presence and offset costs from the annual training conference. To keep the association viable, we ask a modest $25/year for a regular membership and $40/year for an association membership.

Does LETOA share information with third parties?

No. All information gathered by LETOA is kept for internal purposes only. We will never sell member information to outside businesses or organizations. For more information, visit our Member Privacy page.

Does LETOA certify trainers?

No. Our job is to support instructors, not certify. Certifications are left primarily to training and standards. Specialized certifications are available through various outside training companies.

How do I renew my membership?

Just like a new member, there are three ways someone can renew a membership.

How can I contribute articles to the LETOA website?

We are continuously looking for content contributors for our website. Our preference is for content to come from fellow members. However, contributors are not required to be members. For more information about contributing an article or training video, visit our Content Contributor page.

Does LETOA post upcoming training?

We defer the WILENET as the primary source for in-state training opportunities. However, from time to time we’ll post articles focused on available trainings. This is especially true when supporting in-state colleges and recruit academies who are paid sponsors and/or conference vendors.

How can my company become a LETOA sponsor?

Content will be added in a few weeks to assist potential sponsors. Check back soon for additional information.
